First Pitch: The Hopper Honors David Meltzer

The Hopper opened its doors in March 2018. Since then, we’ve launched a ceaseless effort to support San Diego charities, businesses, & noteworthy residents. Some of the organizations we’ve donated to include the Combat Wounded Coalition, Save Our Heritage Organisation, Ronald McDonald House Charities of SD, Little Italy Association, USS Midway Museum, and the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

This month The Hopper along with the San Diego Padres would like to cast a spotlight on part-time San Diego resident David Meltzer by having him throw out the first Ceremonial First Pitch at the May 31st game against the Miami Marlins.

You might recognize David as the host of the #1 digital business show, Entrepreneur Elevator Pitch. David was raised in San Diego and he graduated from Patrick Henry High School. He’s a dedicated philanthropist who serves as an advisory board member for local nonprofits, including:

  • Responsibility Foundation
  • I AM Foundation
  • OCTANe
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County
  • Ellis Island Medal of Honor – Southern California Chapter

David also serves as a board member and business coach for several local businesses, such as:

  • Ad Results Media
  • Keller Williams Realty La Jolla
  • BeMuseMe Magazine

But David’s most passionate work is to empower youth.   David is Chairman of the Board for the Unstoppable Foundation, which builds sustainable villages in Kenya impacting over 75,000 women and children.  David is currently is raising funds to build Unstoppable Community Leadership Centersin Kenya – part of David’s “50 for 50” campaign. He’s a deeply involved member of Ohr Shalom Synagogue, where his brother, Scott, is a rabbi.

He sponsors the Meltzer Scholarship at his alumnus, Patrick Henry, and he volunteers his time to assist Junior Achievement and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. He’s also a proud partner of the Army PaYS program––which recently held a signing ceremony at Petco Park.

David regularly appears on the Mighty 1090 as a sports business analyst, and he hosts the podcast, The Playbook, which airs on Fox Sports and NBC Sports regional networks. The podcast has featured interviews with San Diego sports legends Tony Hawk, Reggie Bush, and Shawne Merriman. We’re thrilled to grant this sports fan the opportunity to throw a first pitch at San Diego’s prized baseball stadium.

The game starts at 6:10 PM. Game highlights include Grad Night and Italian Heritage Night. Get there early to cheer on David!
